The rhythm created by three images in Gloria Salgado Gispert’s “Childhood Memories” series rely on a continuity of form among them, whether it be the patterning of clouds and waves, the transparency of a bubble, or the silhouette of a hand. They are dreamy and universal with each triptych belying a specific narrative in favor of an emotional sequence that implies freedom and play.

Exploring connection to country through the lens of immigration, Gispert’s body of work reads like a roadmap to discovering one’s place within a landscape that so many of us have chosen as our home.

What I appreciate most about Gloria’s piece is her attempt to capture school life. Each scene, photographed eloquently, shows the hierarchy and social dynamics that occur between the students — which transcends cultures and countries.
